Panijhora, Alipurduar

A five-room village stay at the edge of Buxa.

Terrain Vanabas sits in Panijhora, a forest village inside the Buxa Tiger Reserve landscape. Five rooms, a kitchen, a craft room and a garden — that is the whole of it. It is run as a community initiative by JC Kumarappa Technology Park and Innovation Center LLP, with local hosts, cooks and guides from the village itself.

The kitchen cooks full board from the organic nutritional garden behind the house. The art and craft room stays open to guests, and the artisans who work there are glad of company. Days here are set by daylight, the river and the forest road — little else.
